TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, FSU students and Tallahassee residents are one step closer to an urban-style shopping experience. Urban Outfitters, a popular global retailer that offers an eclectic mix of merchandise, including clothing and home accessories, is slated for a spring 2014 opening in CollegeTown, Tallahassee’s newest entertainment district.
The 18,000 square-foot Urban Outfitters store in Tallahassee will be one of less than 200 store locations worldwide and the eighth location in Florida. The closest Urban Outfitters currently is in Jacksonville. The Tallahassee store will be located in the 700 block of South Woodward Avenue, where the old Durra Print warehouse is located. Once completed, the Tallahassee Urban Outfitters store and the newly announced America’s Backyard Restaurant and Bar will create two spectacular entrances for the CollegeTown District.
Alan Hooper of Urban Street Development, the developer of CollegeTown, is the driving force behind the retail powerhouse coming to Tallahassee.
“Students living in the CollegeTown District will be able to eat, drink, listen to great music, and now shop all within a few steps of where they live and go to school,” Alan Hooper, who with South Florida restaurateur, Tim Petrillo co founded Urban Street Development. “We decided to take a green approach and rejuvenate the Durra Print warehouse on South Woodward much like you see in warehouse districts in San Francisco and New York.”
The Gaines Street District aims to bring a new heart and soul to downtown Tallahassee, serving as a pedestrian friendly core that seamlessly transitions neighborhoods with retailers and the existing university campuses. This redeveloped area will create a true sense of place for Florida State University alumni, current students and nearby residents by improving the university experience for all students as well as the overall desirability of these neighborhoods as places to live, work and visit.
