Valdosta Police Say Details Don't Add Up In Overnight Shooting

Valdosta, GA - Valdosta Police are looking for suspects after a man was shot in the groin on the westside of town.

Authorities tell us it happened Thursday around 10pm on the 800 block of Nardo Street.

22-year-old Charles Powell told police he was shot by a stranger as he was walking down the street. Investigators however, think there's more to the story.

"The victim has been uncooperative with police. According to him, an unknown person came up and shot him for no reason. But we did find witnesses in the area who believe it stems from an earlier altercation", says Lt. Aaron Kirk, with VPD.

Powell was taken to South Georiga Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery at last check. Valdosta Police the incident is under investigation.

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Yesterday at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Valdosta Police Department responded to the report of a gunshot victim on the 1300 block of W. Savannah Ave.

Officers say they found Charles Powell, 22, in the passenger seat of a vehicle. EMS transported the victim to the South Georgia Medical Center ER.

Powell told police that he was walking in the 800 block of Nardo Street when he was shot. The incident is under investigation
