It was a day of tears, tight hugs and prayer. Hundreds of students, faculty and staff at FAMU gathered in the Foster Tanner band hall on campus to remember 20-year-old Timbrina Thomas.
"She was a really sweet person," Glyn Turner, Friend of Timbrina Thomas, said.
Blank says she and Thomas became close as freshmen in Fall 2010 and both were saxophonists for the marching 100.
"It was very heartbreaking because two weeks ago I just lost my grandfather and then to hear this it was just all a lot of emotions," said Thomas.
Fellow students say Thomas was a third year psychology major.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the she was a passenger in a car heading north on the turnpike Sunday.
FHP says the driver lost control when the tires separated and the car flipped over. Thomas was ejected and died on the scene. The report says she didn't have on a seatbelt.
"It was very disheartening because we just lost someone a little over a year ago and to be here again you know, very saddening. However, we felt like it was important for us to come together and lean on each other and show support for each other."
Binding together and pushing through another tragedy...that's the goal for many in the FAMU community.
"She was always on time, she was very dedicated, she was a hard working person," said Turner.
At this point the crash is still under investigation. Another passenger in the car was sent to the hospital with minor injuries the driver with serious injuries, but she is expected to be okay.
