Wakulla County Phone Service Restored After Outage

Tallahassee, FL- After about five hours without fully functioning phone service residents in Wakulla County are finally hearing a dial tone.

Viewers began e-mailing Eyewitness News about the problem around 3:00PM Wednesday about the problem.

A fiber line on highway 319 was severed, causing cell and land lines to be temporarily down. While 9-1-1 was fully operational, we were told some residents were not able to make any calls out of the county.

Wakulla County, FL - Phone service across Wakulla County has been interrupted after a fiber line was cut. There is currently no estimated restoration time.

Residents are reporting that both landline and cell phones are having connection issues, along with internet connectivity. Wakulla County Emergency Management reports that the county's 911 system is functional.

The Wakulla County Sheriff's Office reports that a 12 strand fiber line was cut at U.S. Highway 319 and Highway 267.

Crews from CenturyLink are in the process of addressing the problem.
