Wakulla Co., Fla. -- Wakulla School District students took part in the annual Special Olympic Games at Wakulla High School Friday, March 7. The Special Athletes began the games by participating in an opening ceremony that was led by the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office around the WHS track.
After the opening ceremony, the athletes competed in track and field events and bocce. All levels of schools in the district were represented and high school students were invited to show their support by attending the opening ceremony as well.
Wakulla Special Olympians will take part in the Special Olympic Area Games at Tallahassee Lincoln High School Saturday, April 5 with athletes from Leon, Taylor and Gadsden counties. The Special Olympic State Games will be held at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando May 16 to May 18.
Law enforcement officers from the WCSO and other agencies will take part in the Torch Run from the WCSO to the Wakulla County Courthouse Friday, April 11. The Special Olympic Torch will make its way through nearly all of Florida’s 67 counties before the State Games are held in May.
