Why Can't We Stick to Our New Year's Resolutions?

Tallahassee, FL -- Gold's Gym in Tallahassee already has people working on their New Year's resolution, and it isn't even 2013 yet.

"Usually right after Christmas we start getting a little busier, we have people coming in and getting their pre-resolution workouts in, and it's actually better to come in then before it gets busy," said Gold's Gym General Manager Joe Burtoft

Psychologist Dr. Larry Kubiak says that along with losing weight and staying in shape, people often resolve to get their finances in order. The failure to stick to the resolutions could come from the tradition of making them.

"I think a lot of times people do that because they just feel an obligation, not that they really necessarily want to make serious changes in their life," said Dr. Kubiak.

Dr. Kubiak says that a successful step in keeping a resolution is managing expectations.

"Be realistic, make sure that you have an appropriate time frame to accomplish this, people need to make sure they're not discouraged by setbacks, because you're always going to have setbacks," said Dr. Kubiak.

And just like Rome, the new you isn't going to be built in a day.
