Students come to the "Cook County Work Force Development Center" campus of Wiregrass Technical College to get a leg up on their future.
But the future of this campus may be cut short by state-wide budget cuts.
That could be bad news for as many as 500 credit and non-credit students.

"I really enjoy it here and everyone who works here are wonderful. You ask them questions and they can give you an answer," pharmacy student Emily Bostic tells Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg.

The Technical College System of Georgia released a list of 18 campuses being considered for closure because attendance is too low.
This campus is by far the biggest on the list.
And Wiregrass President
Dr. Ray Perren insists it's too valuable to close.

"But we believe this is an area that's continuing to see growth right now inspite of the way budgets are," Perren tells Gullberg.

Dr. Perren says the campus is seeing a growth rate of more than 25% since last year and they are actively seeking new grants to expand their facilities and boost attendance.

Several Wiregrass representatives will soon go to Atlanta to state their case to the commission.

"I just don't want to see it go. I'd love to see it stay," says Bostic.

Sorry Cook County. You don't wine and dine the big boys in Atlanta enough. They must cater to the big cities. They remember south Ga when they want votes to do something.

I really think it is unfair that all the small towns are being torn apart. Most all the jobs are gone and now they want to take away our means of trying to better ourselves in hopes of getting a job some where else.IT IS JUST SAD AND UNFAIR to small towns.....
