Woman Injured After Striking Gator with Her Car

IMMOKALEE, Florida -- July 29, 2012

A Collier County woman is being treated in the hospital with serious injuries after crashing her car into an alligator.

The Fort Myers News Press reports 34-year-old Myrka Charles of Immokalee was driving her truck early Saturday morning when she struck the gator in the road. Charles lost control of her car, which went through a wire fence before striking a tree.

Charles was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital.

It was not immediately known what happened to the alligator.
