Tallahassee, FL, November 25, 2013: Life Sciences of Washington, Inc. will be hosting a World AIDS Day Luminary & Community Event on December 1, 2013 to observe and reflect on the impact of HIV, the lives saved, and the lives lost.
This year the Tallahassee community is encourage to continue its progress in the National World AIDS Day "Getting to Zero" theme.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, it is estimated that 1,148,200 persons aged 13 years and older are living with HIV infection, including 207,600 (18.1%) who are unaware of their infection.
Some groups are affected more than others. Men who sleep with men continue to bear the greatest burden of HIV infection, and among races/ethnicities, African Americans continue to be disproportionately affected.
This year's Luminary event will be held at 513 West Georgia Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
There will be free HIV testing and education as well as food, music, and fun for the entire family.
