Panhandle Man Killed in Plane Accident

St. Augustine (FL) Hal Peterson of Bonifay was killed along with pilot Gene Powers on Thursday when the plane left the ground and promptly came crashing back down into a runway.

The plane took off around 3:00 and was headed Southeast when witnesses said the plane immediately veered into the marsh at the edge of the intercoastal waterway.

The plane was a single engine velocity 173RG. Federal investigators have not determined the cause of the crash.
