FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A Cooper City woman accused of
passing out drunk in her running minivan while her two toddlers
wandered away has been sentenced to a year of house arrest.

A Broward County judge sentenced 44-year-old Brenda Lee Duclos
on Wednesday after she pleaded no contest to two counts of child
neglect, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor
and one count of DUI. She could have faced up to 11 years in
prison.

Police say Duclos passed out in her driver's seat one afternoon
in September 2009. After about two hours, her young son and
daughter got out of the vehicle and wandered about a mile away.

Duclos' attorney says the mother has attended DUI school, a
parenting program and substance-abuse counseling since the
incident
