Golf Camp for Kids

Kids usually pick up a golf club for a game of putt-putt, but some kids at the Jake Gaither Golf Camp are taking a swing on the big course!

Camp director Rosie Keween says the purpose of the camp is to teach the kids skills, rules, and etiquette. She hopes it will introduce the game of golf to kids who would not otherwise have the chance to play.

Kids at the Jake Gaither Golf Camp are getting the chance to practice their putting and strengthen their swing. Four of the campers who show great interest and potential in the sport were chosen Monday, July 25th to receive a Kevin Davey Scholarship. They say this award is a big source of motivation for the kids.

The scholarship recipients are Anthony Walker, Ineicia Lewis, Roman Lodman, and William Hart. They were part of the SNAG (Starting New At Golf) program, and were given the opportunity to attend either the Jake Gaither or Kevin Davey Jr. Golf Camp.

William Hart was excited to receive the award. He says, "Now that I got the scholarship for playing golf I'll probably love the sport more."

Ineicia Lewis says, "I do believe it's gonna inspire me to do other things. Now when I get older I can enter golf competitions and maybe be like the other golfers in the world."

These camps are held every summer. They are a great opportunity for kids of all ages to learn the game of golf!
