Press Release: Tallahassee Fire Department

At 12:21 this morning several units from the Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a report of heavy smoke and fire at a building in the 1400 block of Capital Circle NW.

The first arriving units reported heavy smoke and fire showing from an approximately 17,000 square foot building. Firefighters made an initial interior attack but were unable to stop the spread of the growing fire.

After fire department crews evacuated the building, two ladder trucks were used to supply water above the fire. These operations closed down parts of Capital Circle due to fire hoses being laid to hydrants across the roadways.

There were people living in the building at the time and were on scene when the fire broke out and there were no reported injuries. Red Cross was called in to assist with the 10 people involved.

Tallahassee Fire Department personnel, including investigators, were on scene for approximately six hours before leaving the scene. As of this time the fire is still under investigation.

Tallahassee Fire Department was assisted on scene by the American Red Cross, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Florida State Fire Marshall’s Office, The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and Leon County EMS.
