Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Police Sergeant David Bell was driving in the area of Ocala Road and W. Tennessee Street last night at approximately 12:22 AM when he observed a car parked at the closed business at 1949 W. Tennessee St. Sergeant Bell stopped and made contact with suspect Albert Rhea. As he approached, Rhea appeared to place an unknown object on the ground, near the car. During the encounter, Sergeant Bell observed a loaded handgun magazine on the ground, under the vehicle near where Rhea had been standing. As Sergeant Bell was interacting with Rhea, Officers Chris Guerrero and Trent Sexton arrived to assist.

Sergeant Bell then observed another person, later identified as Lanier Barnes, walking in their direction, who appeared to turn away on sight of the officers on scene in an apparent effort to leave the area. He was then contacted in an adjacent parking lot and detained. A pat down of Barnes located a loaded handgun in the front pocket of his sweatshirt.

TPD Officers Guerrero and Sexton assisted in the investigation and determined a fight had occurred earlier in the evening at a nearby sports bar and suspects Barnes and Rhea had returned to the area to continue and escalate the fight. Barnes and Rhea were arrested and transported to the Leon County Jail.

“Sergeant Bell’s diligence interrupted the efforts of two young adults who were intent on escalating a fight with the use of a firearm. The actions of Sergeant Bell and Officers Guerrero and Sexton resulted in removing a gun from the community and prevented violence not only this morning but also in possible future incidents,” said Chief Dennis Jones

Arrested:
Albert Rhea, black male, 1/4/86 Charges: Conspiracy to commit Aggravated Battery
Lanier Barnes, B/M, black male, Charges: Conspiracy to commit Aggravated Battery, Carrying a Concealed Firearm

Those new red light cameras enabled them to be able to fight crime. Wow, if those things mean TPD can FINALLY do their job, then let em take pictures.

Yep, Sergeant Bell was "profiling." Kept someone from getting killed, but let's not "profile." That's against someone's rights. And the funny thing is, the ones that bray like a donkey the most against it do the same thing every day without even thinking about it. It is human nature to profile. It is part of the thinking and evaluaton process.

Pretty good work by the police. They should be ready to have the Lanier detention and search questioned and all the evidence thrown out. Just because someone who is observed doing nothing illegal seems to want to avoid police is not enough to justify detention and search. Although the police will likely say that Barnes volunteered to be searched, but will have no recording of it.

This is no different than a check point by police and someone turning around to avoid a check point. They are trying to avoid police for a reason. If you have nothing to hide then you shouldn't have a problem with the police detaining you. But because of the great work from these officers, there was not another person killed last night. If they had succeeded in their original plans we would have to hear from people like you, why can't the police stop all of the shooting and killing of the black guys. Make up your mind, do you want the police to help with the crime rate and the killings or do you want them to not profile. Can't have it both ways. I say let them kill each other and the crime rate will drop by it self. Sounds to me like your comment means you have probably been there and done that.

Why can't we ever read about white people being arrested for these acts? Oh well, must be because they don't do these acts.

Casey Anthony is getting so much attention because it's a uncommon case for whites.
