Quincy, FL - On Sunday, October 21st at 12:19pm Quincy Police arrested a career burglary suspect with a 26 year history of committing burglaries around the state in Leon, Columbia, Suwannee, Duval and now Gadsden Counties.
Quincy Police were called to the VIA Foods Store located at 1509 W. Jefferson Street. This business was a grocery store and has been closed for several months. Police were contacted by the business manager who had gone to the business to do some cleaning and unexpectedly interrupted the commercial burglary in progress. Upon entering the business the manager heard noise coming from the second floor inside and went upstairs to investigate. Upon seeing the suspect the manager yelled at him causing the suspect to jump from the second floor to the first and run out the business attempting to escape. The manager gave chase while calling police.
Quincy Police Officer Alton Barlowe arrived quickly to the scene of the crime and was directed to the area where the suspect was last seen by the manager. Officer Barlowe was quickly able to gain sight of the suspect and exited his patrol car to engage the suspect in a foot pursuit. The officer was able to run the suspect down and take him into custody.
According to Asst. Police Chief Glenn Sapp “We are very proud of Off. Barlowe’s actions to apprehend a true career-criminal who has victimized citizens around the state of Florida for decades. We also thank the business manager and although we do not recommend citizens taking too much risk to investigate crimes we are appreciative for his assertiveness in helping us to catch a criminal”.
Patrick J. Miller of Tallahassee, Florida was taken to the Gadsden County Jail.
