Tallahassee, FL -- June 4, 2012 --

On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office received information that a correctional officer may have been involved in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a former Sheriff’s Work Camp inmate.

Detectives with the Violent Crimes Unit established contact with the former inmate, a 29 year old female, who began serving a 60 day sentence in the Sheriff’s Work Camp in November of 2011. An
interview with the inmate confirmed a sexual relationship had taken place with a correctional officer who supervised inmates serving sentences in the work camp.

On Monday, June 04, 2012, detectives interviewed William J. Fletcher and learned that he had developed a consensual sexual relationship with the inmate. Fletcher was arrested and taken to the
Leon County Jail. Fletcher, a 16 year employee at the Leon County Jail, was also terminated.

ARRESTED
William J. Fletcher
46 years old
Charge: Sexual Misconduct with an Inmate

While I agree that it's time for a change in the Sheriff's Office, please remember that it's the voters who keep re-electing Larry Campbell. If you know someone who is better qualified then please encourage them to run against him in the next election. In the meantime, please show some compassion for this man's wife and children and stop writing such negative comments about him.

This is typical of what has taken place at the Sheriff's Office - LCSO under the leadership of the current Sheriff Larry Campbell. It is time for a change!

The officer is married with children have a little respect for them. The children can read, have a little compassion for the wife and kids and don't post something you wouldn't want your family to read about you when you make a bad decision.

The officer didn't show respect for his family or it wouldn't be on the news in the first place. Don't get mad at the messenger.

Then we as a community need to show his wife and kids compassion and respect. Isn't that the right thing to do?

I was an inmate in the Sheriff's work camp, and I was in the company of the two spoken individuals involved with the case. I spent many hours working for Officer Fletcher, and HE IS A GOOD MAN. I was an with the program for over 100 days, and within that time, I determined that Fletcher was the most respectable of ALL of them. Unlike most of the other Jail Work Camp Officers, Mr. Fletcher continuously treated the inmates with decency, and was ALWAYS DEFERENTIAL. Also, I served in the work camp at the same as the young lady, and I know that she holds the same opinion of Fletcher. The report says that THE RELATIONSHIP WAS CONSENSUAL and that IT TOOK PLACE OUTSIDE OF SHERIFF'S PROPERTY. These acts occurred in the privacy of their own homes, outside of the workplace. While spending nearly 1,000 hours in the Work Camp within close proximity of Mr. Fletcher, he NEVER ONCE displayed inappropriate conduct, and absolutely NO partiality ever occurred. I personally am very sour toward Correctional Officer's after my experience in the program, so it is strange that I would publish this; but this man is honorable. I am not saying that Mr. Fletcher is guilty of the alleged crimes or not, but I am saying that he is an honorable man. I do hope that the state will realize that when approaching his trial.

Sheriff Larry Campbell and his deputies received a criminal complaint and the end result was what the community would expect. As always, Sheriff Campbell did a terrific job.

I don't think this is something the Sheriff would be tooting his horn about, seeing as how the perp was part of the LCSO. It tells me that there is a supervisory problem somewhere.

I agree, I don't think the Sheriff is proud of the deputy. However, the supervisors can't be with their people all of the time, they also have jobs to do. Look how many spouses cheat on each other and they spend more time together than a supervisor and employee. You put your trust in the other to do the right thing but it doesn't always happen. Been there, done that.

And attitudes like that are exactly why no one in the government can/wants to make a serious decision, people like you complain there isn't enough 'supervision'. What's supposed to happen in your world? If there isn't enough 'supervision' then who supervises the supervisor, and who supervises the supervisors supervisor? And on and on and on and on. The guy was a 16 year officer, made a bad decision, and was caught. Great. He'll have to deal with the consequences. Blaming it on a lack of ‘supervision’ is a pathetic excuse and an attempt to pass the blame on to someone else when it falls squarely on former Officer Fletcher’s shoulders.

If she is a former inmate and has served out her sentence and her probation then why can't they have a relationship? Of course, if they were fooling around while she was a prisoner that is an idiot messing with an idiot and they deserve their punishment.

Read the story again. She said a relationship "HAD" taken place. Not ongoing now, but sometime in the past most likely while she was an inmate, and he was supervising inmates(her).
