Crawfordville, Florida - July 19, 2011

Two Crawfordville residents, a 40-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, face sexual assault and cruelty toward a child charges in connection with a July 4 sexual act with a Taylor County juvenile, according to Wakulla County Sheriff David Harvey.

On July 11, Detective Erika Buckley received information that a female juvenile was photographed nude and engaged in a sex act with Salena Marie McVey, 26. During the investigation, Det. Buckley learned that McVey and Melvin Santos, 40, traveled to Perry in late June to pick-up the 16-year-old female and spent a week with her in Wakulla County.

The victim told investigators that they consumed alcohol and smoked marijuana during their time together and took several sexually oriented nude photographs.

Santos and McVey were both charged with cruelty toward a child: promoting a sexual performance by a child. Santos was also charged with cruelty toward a child: abuse. McVey faces charges of sexual assault: unlawful sexual act with a minor and possession of a photograph of a sexual performance by a child. McVey was arrested July 15 and is being held in the Wakulla County Jail under a $25,000 bond. Santos was arrested July 19 and is also being held in jail under a $25,000 bond.

Taylor County law enforcement officials are also investigating the case for activity that occurred in Perry.

I know for a fact he told his co-workers @ this and the girl got mad at them is the only reason she went and told...The girl was in trouble with the law already and on probation...Theses are facts left out of the loop! She has been soliciting sex and on probation for that very reason! It was wrong for them to pick her up... regardless...but lets hear both truths!!!

We don't really need to hear both truths since she is 16 years old. What these two ADULTS did was absolutely wrong, even if the 16 year old was soliciting sex and on probation! I am so sick of people trying to defend people that make absolutely POOR choices in life.

They would be able to defend themselves if they hadn't done horrible sex acts. Just sick, you are just as sick to defend sex offenders and people commit sex acts on children, wow, it is a sick world. You need help as well.I don't need to know them, reading about this is already to much and makes me want to vomit, if all this was ok there wouldn't be a charge or two in the first place.SICKOS you and the family are. THIS IS NOT OK,

Where's the girls parents? Maybe they should check in with their teenager once a week or so. Along with what "standardization" said, that's the most common cause of black teenage pregnancy. Lack of parental guidance. White or black, people need to step up and take care of their kids. Believe me Santos wouldn't have been messing with the girl if dad was around. This story would be about a Wakulla county shooting instead.
  • by Standardization Needed on Jul 20, 2011 at 09:19 AM
There needs to be standardization of the law in sex cases. In many states this would not even be a crime because the girl was 16 years old and above the legal age of consent. She wasn't an innocent 8 year old - she new what she was doing, she wanted to do it and the law and the charges should reflect that. I also agree somewhat about the race issue. I have heard O.B. nurses speak of having lots of teenage black girls give birth and the father coming to see the child and it is a grown man - but in their culture it doesn't seem to be a big deal to them so no one reports it. There does seem to be a double standard. And yes - sexual abuse if minors is one of the more frequently occuring crimes there is - and also the most underreported crime.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! Children are being sexually used not only in Wakulla County, but in every county in Florida, every state in the USA, every country in the world. Start by reporting every case of abuse you see, in your family, next door, down the block, in your town. You are the one who makes the difference!

Its funny that they arrest them but every time I report a grandmother who is raising her granddaughter for letting her granddaughter who is 16 but was 14 the 1st time I reported it date a 26 year old grown man & having sex with the man & he is living with them the cops in Taylor do nothing so it just goes to show that yet again its who ya know in Taylor county as to if you do the time for the crime

Your whole family is crazy, you could easily go back to prison, you are on probation also, shouldn't you be careful? You and your sister being in prison, this is so sad, doesn't anyone ever think about the children involved watching their mommies go to jail, what role models, so sad to see this over and over. Priorities are just NOT right. What a shame flat out shame.
