Perry, Florida - September 13, 2011 -

The Taylor County Jail tells Eyewitness News that Daniel McLeod, a former officer with the Madison Police Department, was arrested on September 9th by Perry police. The charges include two counts of lewd battery and one count of lewd molestation. The age of the alleged victim in this arrest is not known at this time.

The Madison Police Department’s Public Information Officer says that McLeod resigned back in 2009 after he was caught sexting with a minor. He was charged at the time with possession of child porn.

The Taylor County Jail confirms that McLeod did bond out and is not in jail right now.

From Eyewitness News 2009 story:

A Madison police officer caught "sexting" with a minor is forced to turn in his badge and could face criminal charges.

Officers say, 23-year-old Daniel McLeod was fired after he showed nude photos of under age girls on his cell phone to adults and other minors.

A teenage girl sent the photos to McLeod which is why officials are now strongly encouraging parents to monitor their kids' cell phones.

Florida law states the consent age of a female in Florida is 16 years of age. That means, if the girl is 15 or less, it doesn't matter if she says okay or her parents say okay. It doesn't matter if the boy is 16 or 38. It's STILL against the law. The law enforcement officer HAD to know this.

Just got home from work reading all of you comments man you people have turned on each other like there is no tommorrow. Glad I don't live in a small town. Why not let the courts prove who is telling the truth. Give me a brake we all know the young and the old can tell lies and make thigs up. Both have family and friends that believe in them and love them, this does not make them evil, stupid, blind, covering up something, and or a idiot just supportive and hurting. No matter who comes out telling the truth in court being in a small community I would think you wanted to help them,to see that they need help. Not rot some place because it could go either way and you would not wish that on the young girl. To many mean and hurtful thigs being said. I pray for all the people that are involved because it doesn't matter now who wins in court they all have lost something win or lose.

Just to let you know, I started dating him when I was 16 and he was almost 26. Not after we were adults and you evidently aren't paying attention to the dating that the girls are doing now. They date older boys over 18 & in their 20's. Look back at your grandparents (according to how old you are) or great-grandparents and see what their age difference was. Girls used to get married alot younger years ago and it wasn't called child molestation. I really don't know what happened as far as this case. I just don't like the idea of someone labled a child molester for seeing someone under 18.

I see. Well, a16 year old girl and a 26 year old man is still breaking the law. What does a 26 year old MAN see in a 16 year old GIRL anyways? I was 14 and dated a 20 year old once. Looking back on it, I have no idea what I was thinking and definitely have no idea what HE was thinking. Pretty disgusting.

You know i have read alot of these different comments. I was a friend to daniel and did alot of things to help him out. He has made alot of GIRLS feel weird while he was around because of comments he would make. As for the madison thing they did have a pic but could not put a face to the girl because it was of her private area i know he showed me. Peole want to act like they know everything but you dont. He was lucky with the madison thing. But focouse on whats going on now he left there came to perry and is still doing things to girls. I hope the whole truth comes out in this case. Leave the madison case alone its over he got away with what he did.

First to all of you out there that keep bringing up his family STOP IT becaue any good parent stands up for their child good or bad and then they get them help I'm trying to stay neutral here because i know things that other people do not know things that other people do not. yes he might have problems but what the girl does too before him and his family ever came into her life i have been in and out of both homes with both families for the past two years and never have I seen the girl act different at all around him seem to me he being that old she would have stayed away from him Then you have her family where there has not been a good atmosphere there This is why I feel sorry for her because she wasn't raised in saintly household either. Not sure the truth has been told by her. then when it comes to his wife his whole family loved her and would do anything for her and the children and did. I love both of the families and know them well, but the facts are the facts and both sides have problems and help not jail

Who cares about the punctuation.Makes sense to me. I don't think this person cared about being in english class. They just wanted to voice their concern for all parties involved. Have you also lost sight of what it was about. Just maybe it was hard for them to write. It does make you think about how much you no about what is going on.
