Tampa, FL (AP) - A former Tampa Bay area teacher who played
football for Notre Dame and attended the Buccaneers training camp
has been charged with having sex with a student.
Tampa police say 28-year-old Dwight Ellick was arrested Friday
and charged with unlawful sex act with a student.
Ellick played football and was a 2001 state-champion sprinter at
Tampa's Wharton High School. He played football at Notre Dame and
participated in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp in 2006
season. He was cut before the regular season.
Police began investigating Ellick in June 2010, following
reports that he had sex with a 16-year-old student. The school
district removed him from his Freedom High School classroom then
and fired him after his contract expired in June 2011.
Ellick was being held without bail set.
