Knife-Point Robbery at a Valdosta Car Wash

Valdosta, Georgia - Feb. 29, 2012 -

PERSON (S) INVOLVED

Victim: Benjamin Bonner, white male, 23 years of age, Valdosta resident

Offender: Walter Thomas, Jr., African American male, 34 years of age, Valdosta resident

INCIDENT DETAILS

On February 27, 2012 at approximately 1840 hours, the Valdosta Police Department responded to the Splash Zone Car Wash at 807 Baytree Road in reference to a robbery. Officers made contact with Benjamin Bonner who advised that an unknown black male approached him from behind and held him up with a knife. The offender, later identified as Walter Thomas, Jr., took Bonner’s wallet and fled on foot. Bonner was not injured during the incident. The wallet was located a short distance from the incident, but the cash that was inside the wallet had been removed. Detectives from the Valdosta Police Department responded to investigate. Pictures from the surveillance video at the car wash were used to identify Thomas who has been arrested and charged with the robbery. Thomas is currently being held in the Lowndes County Jail.

      According to the Fl. Dept. of Ag, yes they do, but with this caveat...."(1) While Florida's law allows licensees to carry stun guns, knives, and billy clubs in a concealed fashion, the laws in these states(Ga.) allow for concealed carry of handguns or pistols ONLY, NOT WEAPONS IN GENERAL. Florida license holders are prohibited from carrying other types of weapons while in these states."

    This is just one of the reasons I carry a legally permitted concealed weapon everywhere I go.

    If the victim had a concealed weapon permit and was carrying he could have done away with this low life.
