On January 17th, 2011, an Officer with the Marianna Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a blue in color, Toyota passenger vehicle, for a minor traffic violation. The traffic stop was made at the intersection of the I-10 on ramp and Penn Avenue. Upon the Officer making the stop, contact was made with the driver, who was later identified as Bruce Allen Davidson. Davidson advised the Officer that he did not have any driver's license. The Officer confirmed Davidson's statements through dispatch and went back up to the car to again make contact with Davidson. While the Officer was at the driver's side of the vehicle, Davidson put his vehicle in drive and began to make a U-turn, heading back onto Penn Avenue. The Officer was nearly struck by the vehicle as it attempted the U-turn. The Officer was able to push away from the vehicle to avoid being struck. The Officer notified other Police units and advised them he was in pursuit. The Officer's pursued the vehicle north on Penn Avenue, towards Highway 90 at speeds reaching 100mph. At this point, Davidson was driving around vehicles and running them off of the road.
Officer's continued to pursue Davidson as he crossed Highway 90 and continued north on Bumpnose Road. After pursuing the vehicle several miles down Bumpnose Road, Davidson lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a wooded area. As Officer's approached the vehicle, they observed Davidson lighting a "crack pipe". Officers were able to detain Davidson and the passenger. The passenger was later released after being unaware of Davidson's intentions. Davidson and the passenger were transported to the Jackson County Hospital E.R. to seek medical attention. Davidson was released with only minor injuries and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
Davidson is being charged with the following charges, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Crack Cocaine), and Driving While License Suspended/ Knowingly. Davidson is also being held for the Florida Department of Corrections for violation of Control Release.
