Tallahassee, FL - A nine-year-old girl told police that a man raped her. Twenty-seven-year-old Donte Potter is now behind bars.
Potter's mother, Shirley Green, says, "By no means would my son do this."
Potter, is charged with raping a nine-year-old girl. Tallahassee Police say the child said Potter told her to take her clothes off and then he "put his stuff in my stuff."
Shirley Cooper has a nine-year-old son with Potter, that he has custody of. Cooper says, "It made me question my child's safety. It makes me question everything that's going on because I'm still stuck and don't know what's going on at all about my son. I just wish that someone would come forward, like his family members would come forth and let me know something, talk to me."
Potter's wife, mother, and grandmother talked say the allegations are not true.
Green says, "If my child is wrong, I'm going to turn my child in. I had to do it before. If I felt within my heart that any part of him had done this thing, I would've called the police myself to get him arrested. I'm not saying this because I'm his mom. I'm saying this because my child innocent of any wrongdoings against that little girl."
Potter was denied bond Friday.
Police say the incident was reported in February, but, say it took time for various agencies to investigate.
The police report says The Department of Children and Families had completed 14 prior investigations on Donte Potter. When Eyewitness News contacted the DCF spokesperson, she said she could not give us information on those investigations.
Potter's grandmother, Edith Potter says, Donte is not that kind of person. He is a lovely person. he talks to all the girls and tell them, don't go out there, don't do this and don't do that."

According to police, 27-year-old Donte Potter was arrested on October 30, 2013 and accused of sexual battery on a 9-year-old girl.
Although Potter was not arrested until late October, the incident was reported by the victim’s grandmother back in February.
The victim’s grandmother, accompanied by Potter, took the child to the hospital after she told her she was raped, and a physical exam was administered by a Child Protection Team (CPT) nurse, who noted evidence of sexual abuse.
According to police, at the time of the report, DCF had already completed 14 prior investigations on Potter since 2008.
