[UPDATE] TPD: Deadbolt Door Led to Basement Full of Marijuana

UPDATED 8.17.2012 by Julie Montanaro

A Tallahassee man accused of growing marijuana in his basement will spend the next six months in jail for it.

Court records show Adam Fritz entered a no contest plea today to charges of marijuana cultivation, marijuana possession and maintaining a drug house.

The judge sentenced him to six months in jail followed by two years on probation.

A Tallahassee man accused of growing marijuana in his basement is free on bond.

We found out today that his father was arrested for a similar crime less than a year ago.

It used to be a downstairs apartment, but Tallahassee Police say the basement of this home on Brookwood Drive had been turned into a marijuana garden.

172 pot plants were seized this week. Neighbors can hardly believe it.

"I'm upset and surprised that illegal activities are going on in our little quiet Brookwood street neighborhood," said neighbor John Winn.

Adam Fritz is now facing multiple felonies. But he spent just 38 minutes in jail and was released on $6000 bond.

"He seems like a nice guy, nothing suspicious at all," Rob Gelhardt said.

Gelhardt lives next door. He noticed a noisy compressor and a new fence, but never imagined the man who renovated the house and groomed its lawn had a green thumb like this.

"It's gotta be for public distribution somehow. I've never seen people coming and going from his house, like if it were suspicious, somebody would drop in and leave in a few minutes. That didn't happen," Gelhardt said.

We found out that Fritz's father, Gary Fritz was arrested for a similar crime in Franklin County last year. Court documents say in June 2011 he was caught with 87 plants in a shed behind his home in Alligator Point.

Gary Fritz has already pleaded no contest and served some jail time in Franklin County for that.

There are no court dates set yet for Adam Fritz.

Their attorney had no comment.

A Tallahassee man is facing multiple felonies. He's accused of growing pot in his basement.

38 year old Adam Fritz was arrested on four drug charges and has since bonded out of jail.

Tallahassee Police searched his home at 850 Brookwood Drive Wednesday afternoon.

Arrest papers say there were 172 marijuana plants growing downstairs.

You can still see what's left of the lighting system scattered in the driveway as well as some of the buckets police say were used to grow the marijuana.

The arresting officer says those items were documented on videotape and then destroyed. He says Florida law allows officers to disable and destroy items like this instead of trying to squeeze them into evidence lockers.

Adam Fritz told police he was laid off in 2009 and sold marijuana to supplement his income.

Somebody's growing weed in the Big Bend? Man! Who knew? Like, welcome to the Wakulla Nat'l Forest, Sopchoppy, Weewahitchka, Tate's Hell. Mid-semester of any year in the past four decades, and half of Tally has always smelled like skunk, and it hain't been cuz of no polecats! Back in 1981 when Jimmy Buffet & the **Coral Reefer Band** played at the FSU gymnasium, Gov. Bob Graham & his daughter had front row seats. Everybody got a contact high from just being in there.

ive smoked pot for the past 13 years straight every single day, atleast 5 times a day, ive been through college im a member of mensa, my iq is higher than every single one of you probably combined, i know its higher than all of our roid addicted police officers combined, I can say without a doubt theres nothing harmful about weed, if you know a pot smoker who isnt all there in the head, he was probably like that before he ever knew about pot. You idiots that think you have the right to tell me what I can and cant smoke are clearly delusional. Who the hell are you? Go back into your zombie sheep lives and stay the hell out of other peoples business. Oh btw I can do anything better than any of you while smoking pot, reaction times are quicker, thoughts are more fluid and its way easier to drive, goodluck making me stop, ill kill anyone who tries. oh and before you grammar nazi's reply back with there their thurrr etc etc etc go ahead and stfu, nobody cares what you think.

Reply to Jake; You sound like a real smart guy. If you are so smart, why don't you take some of the portfolio your so proud of and buy your self some common sense. It's people like you that would vote to legalize pot without ever doing any research. You show some basic computer skills, so check your facts before you start putting down folks that don't agree with your uninformed opinion. Your inability to face reality without drugs shows your "breeding" leaves a little to be desired. Smoking dope in middle school really tells me all I need to know about you, your genetics and your parents. Putting down other people will not change the fact that you are a dope smoking loser trying to come across as a "visionary"

For all of you folks that think pot is not harmful, nobody dies from driving while stoned, it's not a gateway drug and that it should be legalized, please do us all a favor and go to - about.com - and type in - myth: legalization of marijuana in other countries has been a success. - It will open your bloodshot eyes.
