A meth bust in Killearn Acres stuns neighbors.
A 24 year old man is under arrest and deputies say they caught him in the act in his own driveway.
The old van is still parked in the driveway. Deputies say someone complained about a strong smell coming from it.
When deputies got there around 4:30 in the morning, there was smoke coming out of the vent on top.
Inside, deputies say, was a man cooking meth.
"It's scary, it's very, very scary," said neighbor Sandy Cochran.
"We have young children. We have teenagers and it's a very, very frightening thing to know it's going on in your little neighborhood."
LCSO says it has been called to this home on the corner of Donerail and Tomy Lee Trail eleven times this year. but not for anything like this.
24 year old Kyle Shirkey was arrested and charged with manufacturing and trafficking meth as well possessing the ingredients to make more.
Drug agents say there were "two pots" cooking inside the van worth about $1500 on the street.
"Just from looking at the lab and talking to him, I think he's been doing it for a little while. It was not his first try," said LCSO SGT Ed Cook
"but it was not a large scale operation where he would be able to sell a lot in the community."
The real danger, Cook says, is those chemicals could have prompted an explosion big enough to blow the windows out of the van and set the house on fire.
"It's depressing. It's disappointing, but I'm glad to see that the officers were on top of it," said neighbor Sandy Fulop.
Drug agents found more meth-making gear inside the house. Two other people were home at the time, but deputies say they were not involved.
