A crackdown on street crime and corner drug sales resulted in 50 arrests in Leon County.

Two of them happened not even a stone's throw from an elementary school.

Undercover deputies say they pulled into an apartment complex on Shelfer Road and bought cocaine.

Court papers say Danny Hightower and Andrew Madry admitted they were planning to split the proceeds.

Deputies say those arrests happened within 100 feet of Oak Ridge Elementary School.

Those were just two of fifty people arrested in a two month long sting called "Operation Trident"

"This all started with citizen complaints. So we take those citizen complaints and we get some criminal intelligence in those neighborhoods. We take our assets in there, in this case undercover agents, uniformed patrol deputies and we look for crimes in progress," said LCSO Spokesman Tony Drzewiecki.

About half of those arrested are now facing drug charges. Deputies say there were multiple arrests in Tennessee Village, Tanglewood Estates and Sandstone Ranch.

Folks we talked to in Sandstone Ranch weren't surprised.

"Sometimes you have to clean up the neighborhood and make sure that all the neighborhood kids are safe and everything, so I mean I feel that's what they gotta do. So it's what they gotta do," resident Lorenzo Thompson said. He surmised that the economy is driving some folks to do illegal things just to make ends meet.

It's important to point out that not all 50 people were arrested on drug charges. Some were picked up on outstanding warrants and other charges.

The names, faces and charges of those arrested are posted below in an LCSO press release.
Tallahassee, Florida - May 10, 2012 -

Over the past several weeks, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office conducted “Operation Trident” which targeted street level crime in Tallahassee/Leon County. Like the three pointed trident, this operation
used three methods to target crime; citizen complaints to target criminal activity, criminal intelligence to locate suspected crimes in progress, and undercover operations and increased uniformed patrols to apprehend suspected criminals. “Operation Trident” was initiated on February 15, 2012, and as of April 24, 2012 resulted in fifty (50) arrests. “Operation Trident” is on-going and updates will be provided in the future.

“The Leon County Sheriff’ Office recognizes the importance of listening and responding to citizen concerns about criminal activity in our community. In response to citizen complaints and criminal
intelligence, this operation was launched to get suspected criminals off our streets” said Sheriff Larry Campbell. “The success of Operation Trident is due to the continued support and community
involvement of the citizens of Leon County in providing their Sheriff’s Office with valuable information about criminal and suspicious activity.”
