Quincy, Florida - July 23, 2012 -
Quincy Police were flagged down Saturday night (July 21) at approximately 11PM by the victim of a thwarted armed robbery attempt. The victim and a witness told police the following: The victim had gone to the Bank of America ATM located at 1321 W. Jefferson Street to get cash. While the victim was taking his cash he was confronted by a black male aiming a handgun at him demanding his money and wallet. The victim advised that he held his wallet out for the robber and just when the robber attempted to take it he grabbed the robber’s gun and wrestled it from the robber. After a brief scuffle the robber fled the scene on foot while running out of his slides/shoes. The victim, who was uninjured, then drove away and flagged down a nearby Quincy Police Officer on patrol in our downtown area.
When police went back to the area Quincy Police Lt. Eric Howell and his K9 partner “Figo” began tracking the suspect. The suspect was located a short distance away from the incident location and taken into custody. The suspect was not wearing shoes and had only socks on his feet. The victim and a witness both positively identified the suspect as the armed robber.
Arrested was: Devontrez Garrod Williams, 18, of Quincy. Charged with armed robbery with a firearm.
