Quincy's Assistant Chief of Police, Glenn Sapp, says they're offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads them to the person or people who beat up Shadrick Lindsey in the street last week.

Lindsey is no longer listed as a patient at TMH.

Release from the Quincy Police Department

In the early morning hours of May 5th Quincy Police found Shadrick R. Lindsey, 24, of Quincy laying on the ground suffering from trauma to his head area. The victim was semi-conscious and transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A witness in the area advised police that the victim had been walking down the street when a group of five or six black males began aggressively chasing him for an unknown reason. When the witness went to the area he saw the subjects running from the area of the downed victim. At this time no arrests have been made and police need help identifying those who may have been involved in this crime. A Quincy man was chased down and beaten by a group of men early Saturday morning 5-5-12. Shadrick Lindsey was beaten and left laying in the street, fighting for his life.

"The only thing I want out of this is for the people who are responsible for this, (the) person or people, to be brought to justice. I want some justice," says Willie Thigpen, Lindsey's great uncle.

Justice is what a quiet Quincy neighborhood is calling for. Lindsey was walking along B. W. Roberts Street early Saturday morning 5-5-12 when a group of men dressed in black and wearing orange bandannas chased him. The group of about 6 men beat Lindsey, leaving him on the ground barely conscious. He was rushed to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. It's an attack that's left police without a motive and neighbors wondering why.

"He don't bother no body. He's real sweet. A lot of people get along with him. So for somebody to do that to him I just don't understand it," says Tonyera Collins, a friend of Lindsey.

Lindsey is known throughout the neighborhood for his caring nature and contagious smile.

"He has one of those smiles that when you're down, it would lift you up," says Subrina Thomas, a friend of Lindsey.

Now for the man whose smile lifted up so many, his friends and family are hoping their prayers can lift him up and bring him home.

"Just got to be strong, you know? That's all we can do. That's all I know how to do. Pray. Ask God to bring him back home," says Thigpen.

Lindsey remains in critical condition at TMH. But his family says his health is improving.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Quincy Police Department at 850-627-7111.

Quincy has a huge problem. Kids start this in the schools. Our son went to Shanks Middle School for 6 months; he was harassed on a daily basis, not only by the students but by the faculty as well. He was beat by at least 6 boys at the bus ramp while waiting for the bus to go home on school property, and the administrators did not call us, the school resource officer took him to our house (mind you, still no one called us) when we got home we took him to the ER. I was told that we could press charges and that is what we decided to do, only to have the school resource officer collect money for our son’s hospital bill, and tell us that the other children’s parents did not want anything else to happen to their children. When we still pressed the issue about pressing charges we were given different stories about what happened, and we were told that they really could not do anything. Maybe WCTV should send a reporter to investigate why the Gadsden County School Board allows this type of behavior in the classroom. Then when things like this happens everyone is appalled. What do you think is going to happen when children are allowed to act this way?

The school board is run by a bunch of incompetents. They should be in charge of educating our children. Thay have a lot to learn themselves.

Skittles and Arizona tea are part of the ingredients to make LEAN, a Purple or Red Drank.

The City is not responsible for its citizens medical bill. Try again. No one owes you anything. Get that chip off your shoulder and get to getting it yourself instead of expecting somebody else to take care of you.

lets the kids parents pay for this man's medical bills. They are the ones legally obligated to do so and I think the hospital should persue that issue.

Ummm, this is more than just one guy...it was 5-6 low life gang members who thought they were cool. Laws need to be made harsher for anyone involved with a gang. Charge them with felonies anytime they are convicted of being caught participating in or with a gang. This includes spraying gang grafitti on a sign or someones property because you think you own that street.
