On Thursday, April 3, 2014 at approximately 9:45pm, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call in reference to a shooting at 277 Timothy Simmons Road in Apalachicola.

Within minutes, officers from Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Apalachicola Police Department arrived on scene.

Officers made contact with and detained Ronald Joseph Page, suspected shooter.

Officers continued onto the property where they found Charles Fasbenner, Jr. with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

EMS arrived on scene and shortly after pronounced Fasbenner deceased.

Detectives from Franklin County Sheriff's Office were called to the scene.

Details of the investigation are as follows:

Page and his mother, JoAnna Page, were at their residence on the night of April 3rd, and at approximately 9:45pm, Ronald Page heard someone entering the gate of their chain link fence.

Page went to the door and saw a male subject on his property.

Page went back into his residence and retrieved a .22 cal rifle and went back to the front porch of the residence where Page verbally confronted the male subject.

Page advised that the male subject then started towards him.

Page gave several verbal commands, but the male subject did not comply and continued in Page's direction.

Page then fired a warning shot into the ground with his .22 cal rifle.

Page advised this did not stop the male subject from continuing in his direction.

Page advised that he then took a step back on his porch and again gave verbal commands, but the male subject started up the steps and started reaching in his direction.

Page then fired a single shot in the direction of the male subject, striking him in the chest.

Page then advised his mother to call 911 because he had just shot a man.

Page then attempted to render aid to the male subject until law enforcement arrived on scene.

A Franklin County Sheriff's Detective was in contact with the State Attorney's Office during the investigation of the case, and both came to the conclusion that there would be no charges filed based on the information at this time.
