Tallahassee, FL -- April 13, 2012 --

A man was shot in broad daylight on Friday in Tallahassee's Frenchtown section

Police had Virginia Street shutdown for several hours while they were investigating their third shooting this week.

"I'm scared to walk through Frenchtown and I'd be scared for any of my friends or loved ones to be walking through here and they get shot by a bullet that wasn't meant for them, or for that matter get shot by a bullet that was meant for them," says former Frenchtown resident, Gabriel Austin.

One of those bullets hit a man on Virginia Street just before 3 p.m.. Police scoured the street for nearly two hours, checking under cars, knocking on doors and searching for evidence. It's a sight many residents here aren't used to seeing.

"I consider Frenchtown a part of my home," says Austin.

Home is what Gabriel Austin called Frenchtown for two years. As a former gang member who's working to turn his life around, Austin says he's seen plenty of violence, but not here and not like this.

"I should be able to come chill, hang out with friends, you know? Go to the park. Hang out. and not be scared to walk down the street that I'm gonna get shot," says Austin.

Austin says seeing more police out on the street may help stop some of the violence.

Police have not released the man's name or his condition. No one is under arrest at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to call TPD at 850-891-4200
