Valdosta, Georgia - September 15, 2011 -

On September 14, 2011 at approximately 2008 hours, the Valdosta Police Department responded to 1715 N. Troup Street in reference to someone being stabbed. Officers arrived and made contact with Justin Mapps who stated that he had let and known male, Johnny Redding into his home, and that Redding later stabbed him several times and told him to give him his money. Mapps was able to fight off the attack and Redding fled on foot. Mapps did not believe that anything was stolen from the home and he was transported to the SGMC ER for treatment of his injuries, which do not appear to be life threatening. A short time later, Redding turned himself in and was taken to the Lowndes County Jail. Redding is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and multiple counts of Cruelty Toward Children, due to the fact that there were children present during the incident. There is a possibility that Redding will face additional charges and the incident is still under investigation.

Anyone having any further information regarding this crime or any other crime is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department at 229-293-3145 or can remain anonymous at 229-293-3091.
