UPDATED 5.3.2012 by Julie Montanaro

Steven Hanna was convicted of misdemeanor battery today after groping a woman at a Tallahassee Publix store.

Prosecutors say he approached the woman three times. They contend he whsipered lewd comments in her ear and touched her buttocks.

Hanna took the stand today and denied touching the woman.

The jury apparently didn't buy his story. It took them just 15 minutes to come back with a guilty verdict.

Hanna was sentenced to one year's probation, 100 hours of community service and five days on the jail work camp.

WCTV viewers helped to identify Hanna after grocery store surveillance video was featured on our Crimestoppers segment.

Just another case of "he said, she said." Sorry, but if you read the probable cause affidavit there is no footage of him with the "victim." If I were him I would appeal it and when it is overturned go after TPD. They have a pattern of arresting innocent people. I guess it's easier then kicking in crackhouse doors in Frenchtown.

One hundred hours what kind of panty waisted treatment was that? You ask us to leave our jobs, sit on a jury. Judge our peers and you give a pervert like him 100 hours. He needed to go to prison to get what it feels like to be grouped himself. I see why smart people don't get picked for jury duty! What a waste of our time!

What a loser. All he needed was a post on a dating site. Women would have been contacting him.

That attitude is unacceptable. It is wrong to put your hands on a woman in a crowded bar and it is wrong to do it in a grocery store. The woman was trying to buy groceries for her family in peace and this man decided to be a caveman and put his hands on her and tell her what he wants to do to her. It is completely unacceptable. Women are not property and we are not here for some stranger's gratification. I'm glad to see the jury understood that.

This woman wasn't in a bar and he approached her three times in a grocery store...you sound like you have done something similar before if you are defending him. You pretty lame if the only action you can get is by brushing up against someone or grabbing their arse without hteir permission. I would even go as far as speculating you have either considered it or have actually used the date rape drug before at a bar.

I suppose you are right. He should have just fondled some cantaloupes over in produce while leering away.

I've accidentally brushed up against strangers in public before, maybe the woman blew it out of proportion.

"Brushing against" and grabbing a womans buttocks are two completely different things. If you weren't there, I don't think you have any reason to think that the woman "blew it out of proportion". In cases where the jury deliberates for 15 minutes, it's generally not questionable the suspects guilt.

And maybe you should learn the facts before you offer your ignorant opinion.
