Tallahassee, Florida - August 22, 2011
Tallahassee Police Sergeant Hinson recognized a passenger in a car as wanted person Travis Jones. He was also able to confirm the registered owner of the vehicle had a suspended drivers license. Sergeant Hinson initiated a traffic stop at approximately 10:25 a.m. Sunday August 21, 2011. He then observed a glass container on the
floorboard of the vehicle with what appeared to be marijuana inside.
The subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of several power tools with the name of a local construction company written on them.
Sergeant Hinson requested the assistance of an investigator from the TPD Property Crimes Unit. Investigator Scott Anguulo responded and identified the tools as belonging to a local construction company. The tools in the car were just some of the items stolen from a construction site Friday, August 19th.
Investigator Angulo obtained a search warrant for Jones’ residence, which resulted in the recovery of approximately 800lbs of copper wire, several televisions and video game systems, power tools, burglary tools, and several musical instruments.
As the investigation continued, the two passengers in Jones’ vehicle were also linked to the property identified by Investigator Angulo.
All 3 were placed under arrest and transported to the Leon County Jail. This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
“This collaborative effort between our patrol officers and investigators will not only solve these crimes, but result in the return of property to the rightful owners. We remain committed to safeguarding our community and will continue to actively pursue those who engage in criminal activity,” said Chief Dennis Jones.
