Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Saturday April 12, 2014 at 4:45 pm deputies of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were working a traffic enforcement detail on Interstate 10 when they clocked a White 2012 Chevrolet 4 door sedan at 102 miles per hour. As deputies were attempting to catch up to the Chevrolet they were informed by communications that they were receiving several complaints on this vehicle driving recklessly and that the vehicle had just fled from a Florida Highway Patrol State Trooper several miles back.

Deputies were able to catch up to the Chevrolet and attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the Chevrolet increased speed and actively began to flee deputies. Deputies continued pursuit and the Chevrolet exited the Interstate at highway 255 in Lee, ran the stop sign at the bottom of the ramp and re-entered the Interstate Eastbound.

The pursuit continued into Suwannee County where the driver of the Chevrolet reached speeds of 120 miles per hour and began passing other motorist in the emergency lane and grass median. Once the pursuit reached the 90 exit in Suwannee County the Chevrolet exited the Interstate without slowing down and went East on US 90.

A short distance later the Chevrolet attempted a U-Turn to get back on the Interstate and struck a Madison County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle causing the fleeing Chevrolet to come to a stop. Deputies ordered both occupants out of the vehicle and placed them under arrest without further incident. The driver was identified as 21 year old Larvary Copeland of St. Petersburg, FL and the passenger was identified as 23 year old Jean Michael Marcelin of Tampa, FL.

During a search of the Chevrolet deputies discovered two bags of marijuana, currency and a 9mm semi auto handgun that had the identifying serial numbers filed off.
