maybe if they wouldn't have voted for Obama they wouldn't be in this situation to feel the need to steal.

You think drug addicts are the only people taking advantage of easy money when the economy's in this state? Ten percent unemployed, twenty percent underemployed, and how many resorting to drastic measures to pay their bills?

We sell copper and scrap metal for our Christmas bonuses. Not all "scrapers" are criminals. You can tell if the copper is shiney and the metal is not rusty then its probably stolen. If you make it illegal to sell copper without an EPA card (you need that to buy copper, HVAC systems, etc)then it slows theft down. But these scrap yards are making a killing off the drug addicts. It takes about 15 to 20 mins to disconnect an A/C and noise is hard to keep quiet. Keep an eye on your neighbors homes and if you see anybody working on an A/C without a clearly marked truck or uniform then be suspicious.

To prosecute scrap buyers for purchasing stolen property without their knowledge is ridiculous. There are laws in place for knowingly purchasing stolen property but now that goes for anyone not just scrap dealers. The "disease" is not the theft but drug addiction. Drugs are a major reason why the thefts are happening.

"Drugs are a major reason why the thefts are happening." I'm old. Very old. Not even one time in my log life have I ever seen an inanimate object responsible for a crime. Be it a "drug" or "gun" or "hammer" or "ladder" or "tree" or . . . anything else. Humans commit crimes. Bottom line.

FYI: all scrap buyers must copr your ID, address, tag number. some companies (volunteerily) will even make you give finger prints. buyers are doing what they can to prevent buying stolen property. the buyers are NOT making nor asking dumbass people to go out and steal!!!
