Lowndes County, Georgia - October 21, 2011 --

At approximately 11:30 pm Sergeant Theresa Fisher, a member of the Sheriff’s Office Uniform Patrol, was patrolling and noticed a tank truck stopped at the convenience store located at 5145 Madison Highway. Sergeant Fisher stopped and inquired about the activities of the trucks occupants, Matt Ponsell and Shane Popham, and soon discovered that they were about to pump diesel fuel from the stores underground tank into the tanker truck. The locks used to secure the caps of the underground tank had been busted open.

Additional investigation by the deputies resulted in the discovery of a homemade smoking pipe used to inhale illegal narcotics. Both Matt Ponsell and Shane Popham were arrested and transported to the Lowndes County Jail.

Following the arrest, Matt Ponsell was connected to an incident that occurred at the convenience store located at 7415 Georgia Highway 376, on September 27, 2011, in which approximately 300 gallons of diesel was pumped from the stores underground tank.

Both Ponsell and Popham remain in the Lowndes County Jail.

Don't talk about something when you don't know all the details... Not everything is always as it appears.

Not surprised at all really. What goes around sure does come around. Doesn't it? Glad they both got caught. How these people can go around with there head held high with no regard to anything, is beyond me. Matt stole a battery out of my grandmothers car about 25 years ago so I have a bit of satisfaction from reading about this.
