Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office detectives wrapped up a four month investigation into a narcotics and counterfeit money operation by arresting a 28-year-old Tallahassee man Friday, March 4, according to Sheriff David Harvey.

It took a routine traffic stop for law enforcement officers to get their man.

Joseph Daniel Norris was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of narcotic equipment, possession of counterfeit bills, possession of prescription pills (steroids) without a prescription, driving while license suspended or revoked-third or subsequent conviction and fraudulent use of personal identification. He is being held in the Wakulla County Jail with no bond.

Detectives observed Norris operating a GMC truck on Whiddon Lake Road on March 3. Knowing that Norris did not possess a valid driver license, detectives conducted a traffic stop and Norris produced a false identification.

During the search of the vehicle, 11.6 grams of marijuana and a drug scale were recovered along with brass knuckles. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Norris’ camper at 114 Newton Road in Crawfordville based on statements made by the suspect that there was marijuana located at his home.

During the execution of the search warrant, guns, a television, computer, $900 in counterfeit $100 bills, copy paper used to create the counterfeit bills and more marijuana was discovered. The truck, narcotics and property was seized as evidence and Norris was taken to the Wakulla County Jail.

Sheriff Harvey said that both the Tallahassee Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service have been investigating the activities of Norris. Law enforcement officials believe Norris acquired property and narcotics by using the counterfeit money. Purchases using counterfeit money allegedly took place at malls in Tallahassee.

The Wakulla County arrest could lead to additional federal charges as the case investigation continues at both levels, said the sheriff. The seven hour operation began at 6 p.m. March 3 and concluded at 1 a.m. March 4. The total amount of marijuana seized was well over 20 grams. Additional arrests are possible, the sheriff concluded.
