A very careless driver crossing lanes to get into the turning lane when she should have gotten in the lane at the beginning where the turn lane starts. When you cross lanes at the middle like that, you are basically trying to dogde oncoming cars and you don't see what is already in the turn lane. they do that all the time when they decide they want to get into the turning lane when they have already passed the starting point. It has happened to me; I was already in the turning lane nearly at Park Ave. when a very smart dumb person suddenly decided he wanted to get into the turn lane. If I hadn't braked I would have ended up in the bushes in front of Circle K. Don't always blame the victim for careless drivers in a big rush. And she was in the bicycle lane you know. The driver just didn't take the time to look.

I am appalled at some of the trash written about this incident. But not being from here, I just consider the source, which is stupid local people that wear a lot of flannel and camoflouge. I hope the family reviews the regulations concerning bicycle lanes in this city. Shortly after the city posted a light at the intersection of Bradfordville and Velda Dairy Road they posted a sign about 100 feet before it that showed a light. It was upside down with the green circle light on the top and red on bottom. It took weeks for the city to turn it the right way. I was so amazed I took a photo of it. If the city violated federal or state guidelines regarding bicycle lanes, and I suspect they did, then the city of Tallahassee can just pull out the checkbook, again. My prayers go with this family.

If the victim was in a bike lane - and the driver was attempting to get into the RIGHT TURN LANE, how was the driver supposed to get over there since there is not a specified way to do that without hitting a bicycle or jogger? There is no designated spot to do that. And I as a driver would assume it could be done at any point and I've seen other drivers do it at any point. It is all WHITE LINES. Where is the entrance to that RIGHT TURN LANE?? How much reflective gear did the victim have on? Why were the other joggers on the sidewalk? (I know the answer but just refresh me in a story please from WCTV.) Wasn't it very dark at 6:30 a.m.? Why aren't bike lanes with double yellow lines so we know not to venture into them?

Yes RIP ANITA. A bike lane engineered to have motor traffic on both sides gives people a false sense of security. It's like "I'll be safe here" "the bike-friendly traffic engineers said so". Instead of the bike-logo there should be a skull and cross-bones logo painted on that portion of the bike lane.

Joggers...Please jog facing traffic. You might have a chance to get out of the way if you see a car coming. For safety's sake.

Sure, and get a citation or ticket while you're at it. I remember when I was eighteen and living in Gainesville I was attempting to exit a side road and cross two north bound lanes to get into the two south bound lanes. I pulled up and looked to the left, then looked to the right (which was partially obstructed by an unseemingly large shrub), then back to the left and took my foot off the brake. About that time I heard the crunch of a bicycle under my car. Fortunately I was only going 3-4 mph so it did little more than knock her off the bike and cause a slight abrasion to her knee. Long story short the officer told me "even though SHE was incorrect for going AGAINST the flow of traffic, you have to receive the citation for failure to yield because you were in a car while she was on a bike." No disrespect intended to Anita or her friends and family, but why the HELL wasn't she running on the sidewalk? Bike lanes are FOR BIKES. I never run in the bike lane. Ever. You couldn't pay me enough with these idiot drivers we have in Tallahassee.
