Marianna. FL - July 14, 2011 --
The Jackson County Board of Commissioners will soon start accepting bids to repair several bridges in the area.
Some of the structures affected include C.R. 162 over the Chipola River, Tennessee Street over Stump Creek, and Bentley Road on Little Alligator Creek.
Commissioners said concrete chunks are missing on the bridges, dirt is eroding and several support beams need work. The price tag, according to commissioners, could be upwards of $400,000.
"Often times specialized equipment is needed to get down in the water and to actually remove the rust and to replace some of the metal that's needed and the concrete that's needed. So I think it's a very arduous task to do that," said Jackson County District One Commissioner Dr. Willie Spires.
Commissioners said they'll start considering bids in the next few weeks and make final decisions in August.
