Tallahassee, FL --
The Florida State University Police Department will be conducting DUI Checkpoint(s) on campus the evening of December 1, 2010. The first will be held in the 800 block of West Jefferson Street, in front of Dorman Hall from 9:30pm - 10:30pm. The second will be in the 500 block of College Avenue, 11pm - 12am. The third checkpoint will be held on Murphree Street on the far west edge of campus between 12:30am and 1:30am. The operations will be conducted in cooperation with law enforcement agencies comprising the Leon County Multi-Agency DUI Strike Force.
"Enforcement of Florida's impaired driving laws has been, and will continue to be a top priority for the FSUPD and our law enforcement partners. It's about saving lives", said FSUPD Assistant Chief Jim Russell.
FSUPD has recorded over 160 DUI arrests so far in 2010 - more than any single previous year.
"We cannot allow impaired drivers to threaten our campus and surrounding community", said FSUPD Lieutenant of Operations Randy Chandler. "The friends and families of each of us are using these roads."
