Fatal Crash in Killearn Acres Leaves One Dead

UPDATED 5.4.2012 by Julie Montanaro

Folks who live near the crash scene say they want the county to put up better warning signs.

"It's too bad. We don't need a tragedy like this. If we can just get something in place that can prevent any more," John Malloy said. Malloy heard the crash and ran outside with a flashlight to see if he could help. His wife called 911.

Malloy says at one point, folks who live near the curve put up their own homemade signs, but he says the county took them down.

We are still trying to get more information about that from Leon County as well as try to get a tally of recent crashes.

A single car crash last night shortly after 9:50 p.m. leaves one man dead.

39-year-old Jason Ray Hall was traveling east on Whirl-A-Way Trail when he failed to negotiate the curve properly causing his vehicle's left side tires to travel onto the north shoulder of the roadway.

His 2001 Toyota overturned onto it's left side and collided with the embankment, finally coming to rest in an upright position. He was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating this case.

Show some respect for my friends. What if this was your son. How would you feel about the nasty comments.

My condolences to the family, ignorant and insensitive comments should be just brushed away, and not even acknowledged. Yes this is a place for discussion, but hurtful comments are unnecessary and pointless. It just goes to show how divided and uncaring this world is turning. To the family i am very sorry for your loss and wish you guys the best, he may not be here physically, but he will always be watching out for you and will remain in your hearts for a lifetime.

u r right to make ur own arrangements to have ur own closure. his ashes will be sent to TX where they belong. but to say his family didn't care enough to run an obit for him is ridiculous - if u r gonna say that them call out some names, because his FAMILY here in Tallahassee haven't had a chance due to dealing with HIS ONLY @ CHILDREN and the grief over losing their father! so get over urself and just do what U gotta do for closure!

I would like to say "SORRY" if what was said upset you.But people lose Loved Ones EVERY DAY!! and still find the time to run an Obit in the newspaper for them!! this was not about calling someone out by name, just stating the OBVIOUS!!Jason wasn't a perfect person but he did alot for those around him.He even put people through school. And when he had his accident and needed those people.they repaid him by walking out on him.But regardless it takes less than 30 minutes to do something for his memory. But his REAL FRIENDS were and always will be around to remember J BOB in a way that respects his memory.Let's just hope his Son receives what was Jason's and not the greedy people that surrounded him..R.I.P J BOB!!!

I wonder why Sheriff Campbell allowed FHP to investigate this accident?

FHP typically investigates all auto deaths, so this is nothing new.

It is the driver's fault and costly signs will not prevent a driver's carelessness who is familar with the area.

Absolutely! It is clearly the drivers fault. The police report plainly states that he over-corrected. An easy mistake to make, but clearly a mistake made by the driver.

I used to live off Whirlaway on Lookout Trail. Drivers have always gone fairly fast on this road. I am sorry for the family and especially the children for the loss of their loved one. I'm not exactly sure where on Whirlaway this occurred and I'm not even gonna speculate as to what could have caused him to go off the road in the first place. BUT I do find it COMPLETELY disrespectful for anyone to come on here and post anything negative about someone that they didn't even know. AND the "speculate" as to what really happened. All the negative comments are pointless and intended to be hurtful to anyone that may have known him. Get a life, GROW UP and learn to be respectful during a time such as this. I' experienced the same hurtful and hateful comments when the mother of my son was killed in an accident while wearing a seatbelt. You people need to think about how YOU would feel if someone in YOUR family was killed in an auto accident!!! No one is perfect. Just remember that

I've had family members killed in accidents, and what I did not do is ask people on the street what they thought or read what people post in comments. We learn by other peoples mistakes, and by open, free and truthful discussion. If this offends you, you don't belong here.

@ Michael--believe me. If I lost a loved one I would not be spending my time reading comments.
