[UPDATE] Fatal Crash Leaves 3 Dead

An early afternoon, single vehicle crash which occurred on Tuesday claimed the lives of three migrant farm workers en route to Quincy Florida from Immokalee, Florida. According to Florida Highway Patrol Investigators, a large passenger van carrying the twelve passengers’ was traveling westbound on Interstate 10, just west of US-129 in Suwannee County. According to information, as the van traveled west approaching the area of this crash its left rear tire experienced a catastrophic tread separation and a subsequent blow-out. This caused the van to experience a sudden, unexpected loss of stability, which caused its driver to lose control. According to evidence and statements from some of its occupants, the van began to swerve from right to left numerous times, where it then overturned to its left side along the northern shoulder of I-10. This rollover subsequently ejected seven of the twelve occupants, causing three of them to sustain fatal injuries. Two other occupants were treated at local area hospitals and were later released with only minor injuries, seven others were taken to local area hospitals (Shands at UF Gainesville, Lake City Medical Center and Shands at Lake Shore in Lake City), where they remain in serious condition. Names of these passenger’s and the deceased are being withheld pending positive identification and notification of their next-of-kin.
Suwannee County, FL - The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal accident on westbound I-10 near mile marker 281.

Few details about the accident are available at this time, but according to FHP's website, the crash occurred around 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. At this time the FHP is reporting that lanes are now open but traffic is moving slowly.
