Jefferson County, Florida - September 8, 2011 -
A father and son are involved in an accident, leaving the father dead and the son in serious condition. Tommy Clifton, 51, and son Thomas Clifton, 20, of Hahira, Georgia, were driving in a 2002 Ford Van when the accident happened
The van, driven by Tommy Clifton, was heading southbound on U.S. 221 (State Road 55). For unknown reasons, Clifton crossed the
center line, the northbound lane, and entered the east shoulder. The van continued on the shoulder for 131 feet before the front of the van struck a tree.
After impact, the van rotated around the tree counter-clockwise
approximately 90 degrees, coming to final rest facing east.
Tommy Clifton was pronounced dead on scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Jefferson County Fire/Rescue, Ashville V.F.D., and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
