Weekend Closure Cancelled - The scheduled closure of Gaines Street this weekend, Saturday - Sunday, March 12-13, has been cancelled. Crews will still be installing storm drain pipes along Gaines Street; however, with the success of the new one-way traffic pattern, they will be able to accomplish this work within the current construction zone.

Gaines Street became a one-lane, one-way westbound road between Duval Street and Railroad Avenue on Monday, March 7. Eastbound traffic on Gaines Street is being rerouted at Railroad Avenue north to Madison Street, which has three available eastbound lanes.

Detour signs through and around the construction zone are clearly posted. In addition to traditional construction signage, special signs are posted on Madison Street to help direct motorists back to Gaines Street in order to access the area's businesses. A vacant City-owned lot on the corner of Gaines Street and St. Michael Street is temporarily open for use as a public parking lot.
