Lowndes County - March 7, 2012 -

On Tuesday, March 6, Deputy Casey Cope observed a white-in-color Toyota Scion traveling south on Interstate 75 near the eleven {11} mile marker in excess of ninety {90} miles per hour. Deputy Cope attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to stop and attempted to speed away. The vehicle registration was checked and it was learned that the car had been reported as stolen to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia. Deputy Cope, and other assisting deputies, followed the car across the Florida state line at speeds in excess of one hundred {100} miles per hour. Once in Florida, the driver exited the interstate into the parking lot of the Florida Welcome Center and then attempted to re-enter the interstate but lost control wrecking the vehicle. The driver, Justin Patrick Carey, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested by deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

During investigation by the deputies it was learned that Justin Carey was also wanted by the California Department of Corrections for a violation of his parole.

Arrest warrants will be issued in Lowndes County and following an extradition hearing in Hamilton County, Justin Carey will be returned here from Florida. No specific date is set for that hearing as of yet.

Did you also notice that this picture is a mug shot, and not a glamor shot of him smiling, and acting goofy for the camera. It came from Georgia, and not Florida.

The article says he was booked into the Hamilton County jail, in Florida, awaiting extradition to Georgia.

If I was trying to get away from California, and stealing a car in Virginia, I don't think I would be headed to Florida, where was he going to go when he got to Key West, was he going to jump, and swim for it. And I certainly would not be traveling at a high rate of speed to attract attention from a highway patrol officer. Per chance were there drugs involved ???
