City of Thomasville Release
Thomasville, GA – January 18, 2013 – Beginning Wednesday, February 20, 2013, Jackson Street, from Broad Street to Crawford Street and Madison Street to Stevens Street, will be closed during business hours for roadway improvements. Work is expected to be completed by the end of the day, Wednesday.
The work that is being done is a component of the Madison Street Transportation Enhancement (TE) project and will remove the asphalt from the roadway, exposing the historic brick pavers underneath.
“We’re very fortunate that we’ve been able to extend the scope of the TE project to include the removal of the asphalt on this section of Jackson Street,” said Assistant City Engineer Jerry Pionessa. “This additional TE project work will help to enhance the historic character and visual continuity of this section of Jackson Street for citizens as they visit our downtown area.”
The Madison Street TE project, which is near completion, has revitalized the streetscape on Madison Street by adding decorative sidewalks and lighting, moving all aerial utilities underground and also exposing the historic brick pavers on another section of Jackson Street.
Citizens are asked to please remove all vehicles from these two sections of Jackson Street by 7:00 a.m. Wednesday morning to allow for construction.
