Lamar Street Bridge Closed for Repairs until Further Notice
[UPDATE] Valdosta, GA - On Mar. 28, Department of Transportation inspectors evaluated the structure of the Lamar Street Bridge, located between Oliver and W. Adair Streets. While the structural beams of the bridge were found to be in good condition, the inspectors informed city engineers that the bridge deck should be replaced before the bridge could safely be reopened for motorists and pedestrian use.
The bridge was closed on Mar. 25 and will remain closed for approximately two to three weeks to allow for the development of plans, the bid and contract processes and the completion of the repair work.

Valdosta, GA - On March 25, the Valdosta Police Department received a call from a city resident concerning the safety of the bridge on Lamar Street, located between Oliver and W. Adair Streets. The VPD taped the bridge off from motorists and reported the incident to the city’s Engineering Department for further investigation. At 3 p.m., the Engineering Department closed the bridge as a cautionary measure to allow for Department of Transportation inspectors from Atlanta to determine the safety of the bridge early next week.
