Leon County, Florida - April 20, 2012 - Noon

Cleanup is underway on I-10 after a semi truck overturned this morning. FHP Troopers say the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The truck crashed on I-10 west in Leon County, near the Thomasville Road (US-319) exit. 25 pallets of Coca-Cola products were in the trailer.

The semi truck driver is 37-year-old Terry Rigdon of Middleburg, Florida. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Rigdon fell asleep at the wheel, ran off of the road into the grass median, over corrected to the right, and steered back hard left. The semi then over-turned on its right side. It came to a final rest on the north shoulder of I-10. Rigdon has minor injuries and is currently at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was charged with careless driving.

Drowsy driving is something the Florida Legislature has tried to raise awareness about in the last few years. They passed the Ronshay Dugans Act after a drowsy truck driver crashed into the 8 year old's school bus, killing her.
