Florida Highway Patrol Release
Gadsden County, FL - Branden Robert Maher, 20, of Ormond Beach, Florida was arrested and charged with Auto Theft, Armed Robbery, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude and Aggravated Assault, following a high speed chase in Gadsden County.
Thursday afternoon, during routine traffic enforcement, Trooper Sterling Safford observed a speeding vehicle on SR12 in Gadsden County. Before Safford could turn around to stop the vehicle, Maher pulled into a business and exited the vehicle. When Safford arrived at the vehicle, Maher had left.
Safford checked the vehicle’s tag and determined the vehicle was stolen and had been involved in an armed robbery in Daytona Beach, Florida.
With assistance from Deputy Tiffany Parson, of the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Safford began searching the area and observed Maher walking back to his vehicle. Maher returned to his vehicle and began to leave the scene.
As he left, Maher attempted to strike Deputy Parson with his vehicle, and Parson fired her service weapon a single time at the Maher and vehicle. Maher then entered I-10 and led officers on a high speed chase until he exited at US90 in Midway and crashed into a wooded area.
Maher then exited the vehicle with a knife, but was subdued without incident by law enforcement personnel. Maher was booked into the Gadsden County Jail.
Gadsden County, FL - Florida Highway Patrol reports that this afternoon, an officer was on traffic duty and clocked a car speeding at a high rate along I-10, near Gadsden County.
The officer chased after the vehicle, and found the vehicle stopped at a gas station.
When the trooper found the vehicle, the man was gone.
The trooper ran the car's tag, and found the car was stolen out of Volusia County.
The FHP trooper spotted a man lurking around the gas station and aproached the man for questioning. The man fled in the direction of the car, and the trooper, and Gadsden County Sheriff's Office tried to tackle the man, but the man was able to get in the car.
The man then fled on Hwy. 267, and tried to get on US Hwy 90, and then lost control on the ramp. His car hit trees off the ramp.
The man got out of the car with a knife, but police were able to apprehend the man without incident.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office called back and said this car was involved in a robbery out of Volusia County.
