Road Closures for Gaines Street Block Party

Tallahassee, FL -- August 25, 2011 --

As work is completed on Phase I on the City of Tallahassee's transformation of the Gaines Street corridor, several road closures will occur Friday, August 26, in conjunction with the Gaines Street Block Party.

The closures will be in effect from 3-11 p.m. and are as follows:

Gaines Street from Bronough St. to Railroad Ave.
Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Boulevard St. and Macomb St. between Madison St. and St. Francis St.
St. Michael Street from St. Francis St. to Gaines St.
Bloxham St. from S. Bronough St. to Boulevard St.

The suggested alternative route for westbound traffic on Gaines Street is to take Duval St. north to Pensacola St. to continue heading west. Bronough St. will remain open for traffic heading southbound.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area as there will be a large number of pedestrians in the area. Public parking will be available at the Civic Center, on the Arts Exchange lot and on two smaller lots located off Bronough St. between Madison and Gaines streets.

If you work for the city, then find out how things are funded. That may be part of the reason. SOMETIMES certain funds can ONLY be spent on a certain project. They can not always just shuffle money to your department or it could be just poor management of YOUR department.
