City of Tallahassee Release
Tallahassee, FL - Late this week, the City of Tallahassee will complete the traffic shift on Gaines Street in the current construction zone. All westbound traffic between Railroad and Woodward avenues will then use the south travel lanes.
Additionally, Gay Street has been temporarily closed between Madison and Gaines streets to allow crews to begin work on storm drain improvements. This is expected to last a few weeks.
After the traffic switch, construction activities will focus on the north side of Gaines Street. Construction will include:
·storm drain improvements;
·duct bank installation and associated utility and communication line movement;
·building new sidewalks, seating walls, bioswales, curbs and gutter;
·completion of median islands;
·milling and repaving of the north lane; and
Gaines Street will remain a one-lane, one-way westbound road between Railroad Avenue and Woodward Avenue after this shift. Traffic headed eastbound on Gaines Street will continue to be detoured at Woodward Avenue north to W. St. Augustine Street.
Businesses in the construction zone remain open. Access to all the businesses in the area will be maintained to the greatest extent possible during construction.
